About Me
Hi, I’m Karen Barlow and I’m so glad you’re reading this.
I’ve spent the past 25 years walking alongside people through life’s most tender, challenging, and transformative moments.
As a counsellor, I’ve worked in schools, community settings, and private practice—but my heart has always been with women.
Women of all ages and stages. Women who are holding it together for everyone else. Women who feel lost, overwhelmed, or quietly aching. Women who are growing, healing, and rediscovering their strength.
If you’re reading this and wondering whether counselling is “for you,” I want to gently say: Yes. It is. You are worth it.
My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and deeply respectful. I offer a safe, confidential space where you can talk freely, explore what’s going on beneath the surface, and begin to feel more like you again.

A Space Just For You
Face to Face Counselling:
We provide a safe and therapeutic environment for women aged 18 and over. We offer appointments five days per week.
Quick Response Support and Counselling:
We also have pre-allocated appointment slots for clients who need to be seen as soon as possible. Self-referrals and GP referrals are most welcome.
Phone Counselling, Face Time or Online Counselling:
Phone counselling or video sessions are provided on Saturdays for people who cannot attend counselling during the week or live in rural areas. You have a choice of phone or online (video) counselling.

Parenting
Parenting is one of the most important, and yet sometimes the most difficult task we can undertake in our lifetimes. There are so many opinions and ideas out there and it's hard to know what works. It is important to look at the information that has years of research within the parenting world.

Here are some answers to the questions we often get asked.
There is a saying that 'Time heals all wounds', but according to Dr Henry Cloud the co-author of 'Boundaries', it's not time that heals wounds, it is what you DO in that time that heals emotional wounds. Counselling provides insight, awareness and understanding about the issues you may be facing. It also provides knowledge and skills to help you cope better and move forward to help you have a more positive approach to life. Ultimately, the aim of counselling is for our lives to be renewed.

There has been a lot of research done in the areas of mental health and wellbeing, and there are many helpful activities that have been proven to decrease stress and improve your wellbeing. Some of these include:

It's also really important to slow down, notice your breathing, be in the present moment, and be kind to yourself.
Bundaberg Counselling is a fee for service business that provides competitive rates.
Individual sessions - $100 for 50 minutes
We are now providing PHONE/VIDEO counselling on Saturdays. This allows us to provide sessions so that people who work or live in regional areas can have access to counselling.
Payment for counselling is done by bank transfer at the start of every session. You will be provided with our BSB and Account Number at your first session.
We are happy to take referrals from your GP and other health professionals. We also welcome self-referrals and you can simply contact us and book an appointment.
Yes. They can be super helpful!
During COVID I spent 2 years providing a high level of phone counselling to my clients and many of them opted to stay with phone counselling even after COVID was over. One of the benefits of phone and online counselling is that you don't have to worry about transport and parking. Another benefit is that you can sit in your own comfy chair at home, get a hot or cold drink and chill out. At the end of each session, I offer a relaxation, and that means you can stay in your chair and stay in a relaxed state for a lot longer than if you had to get in a car and drive home. It's lovely!
Counselling for Men
While many people first discover my practice through my work with women, I also welcome and support men who are navigating personal challenges or relationship concerns. Men often carry a unique set of pressures—expectations to stay strong, to cope silently, or to “push through”—and these expectations can make it harder to reach out for help. In my counselling space, men are met with understanding, respect, and practical guidance.
I have experience working with men across a wide range of issues, including stress, communication difficulties, emotional overwhelm, relationship conflict, and periods of feeling lost or stuck. My approach is supportive and down‑to‑earth, offering both a safe place to talk and useful information that helps men make sense of what they’re experiencing.
Whether you’re seeking individual support or wanting to strengthen your relationship, counselling can be a powerful step toward clarity and confidence. Many men find that having a neutral, non‑judgmental person to talk to helps them reconnect with their goals, understand their emotions, and get back on track.

Some people find that their faith provides strength, grounding, and clarity during challenging seasons, and I’m here to support you in exploring that with care and respect. You’re always free to decide how much or how little your faith becomes part of our work together — the pace and depth are entirely yours to choose.
